Our story
Founded in 1880 by Rev. Louis-Alphonse Nolin, the English Debating Society (EDS) is the oldest student organization at the University of Ottawa. As the University of Ottawa’s most prominent competitive debating club, the EDS is dedicated to helping students from all backgrounds improve their public speaking, and analytical skills. As well as helping students expand their knowledge over a broad range of topics including politics, ethics, international relations, economics, and much more.

Fondée en 1880 par le révérend Louis-Alphonse Nolin, la société anglais de débat est la plus ancienne organisation étudiante de l’Université d’Ottawa. En tant que club de débat compétitif de l’Université d’Ottawa, la société se consacre à aider les étudiants de tous horizons à améliorer leurs compétences en matière de prise de parole en public et d’analyse. Elle aide également les étudiants à élargir leurs connaissances sur un large éventail de sujets, notamment la politique, l’éthique, les relations internationales, l’économie et bien d’autres encore.
